Green Bay -- Defensive end Jarius Wynn has been cut by the Green Bay Packers, a source told the Journal Sentinel.
A year ago, Wynn was vaulted into a prominent role following Mike Neal's knee injury in training camp. Playing all 16 games, he had 32 tackles and three sacks. While Wynn got off to a fast start with a pair of sacks week three against the Chicago Bears, he never developed as a dependable pass rusher. The loss of Cullen Jenkins stung Green Bay's defense all season.
Also, at 285 pounds, Wynn struggled against the run. Despite adding bulk, he remained undersized for a 3-4 defensive end.
It became clear early this off-season that the Packers were looking to revamp their defensive line. After drafting Jerel Worthy in the second round and Mike Daniels in the fourth round of April's draft -- and seeing pick-up Daniel Muir emerge as a potential pass rusher -- Wynn became expendable for the Packers. Other than one interception of Aaron Rodgers, he didn't do much this training camp.
Wynn, a sixth-round pick in 2009, had one tackle this preseason.
The Packers will need to cut nine more players today to reach the NFL's mandated 75-player limit.
