The Minnesota Vikings didn't take much time to decide they wanted to cut ties with running back Caleb King.
Three days after the 24-year-old King was booked into Anoka County Jail following his arrest on suspicion of third-degree assault with substantial bodily harm, King was put on waivers by the Vikings. King was released from jail on Tuesday.
King allegedly got into an altercation that left a 22-year-old Coon Rapids man in serious condition at a local hospital.
According to a statement issued by the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the alleged victim was hospitalized with a skull fracture, facial fractures and injuries that required more than 50 stitches to close.
The incident allegedly happened at the birthday party of a female friend of King's in Oak Grove. King denied assaulting the man to police, saying the man simply fell to the ground while they were speaking.
No charges have been filed against King by the Anoka County attorney at this point.
King declared for the NFL supplemental draft last summer after being declared academically ineligible for his senior season at Georgia. He wasn't drafted and ended up signing with the Vikings for a $5,000 bonus.
He was waived in the final roster reduction, spent most of the season on the practice squad and then was promoted to the active roster on Dec. 26. He was inactive for the season finale.
