Former Giants running back D.J. Ware, released by the team on Friday, has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team and Ware's agency have announced.
Ware, who lost out to Andre Brown and Da'Rel Scott for the final spots behind Ahmad Bradshaw and David Wilson on the Giants' roster, will join former Giants quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan in Tampa.Sullivan was a Giants assistant coach from 2004 through this past season and is now the Buccaneers' offensive coordinator.
Someone who spoke with Ware today said he also received interest from four other teams and boiled the list down to the Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks and the Bucs as his finalists. The person, who requested anonymity because the negotiations were to remain private, said a lower tax rate in the state of Florida factored into Ware's decision.
